If you’ve ever tried searching for ski lessons for 2 year olds, you’ve probably run into this issue… many mountains offer toddler programs, but they are typically only for kids ages 3+.
So instead of clicking through every ski school page in the Northeast to find which ones offer ski lessons for 2 year olds, I did it for you!
These are the mountains that offer ski lessons for 2 year olds and everything you’ll want to know before booking your first lesson.
What Ski Lessons Look Like at Age 2 (The Honest Version)
At age two, most ski lessons are kept short. Typically, 30 to 60 minute lessons with an introduction to the bunny hill using a magic carpet or conveyor belt.
These early introduction lessons to skiing or snowboarding focuses on balance, comfort, and movement, not technique.
You have three options for beginner ski lessons for 2 year olds:
- one-on-one private ski lessons
- short, play-based small group lessons
- traditional half or full-day ski school
Three things first time ski parents should know:
- equipment rentals: boot rentals for tiny feet often have limited availability. Make sure you call ahead to ensure they have the size you need.
- helmets: helmet rentals are not usually included in the basic rental package and are an additional fee.
- weather conditions: uncomfortable conditions for little ones can end the day quickly. Find out the cancellation policy due to weather conditions so you can make the right decision for your family.

A Few Things to Know Before You Book a Ski Lesson for a Two Year Old
A few practical reminders before committing:
- Most mountains have limited availability for toddler ski boots… call ahead
- Short lessons almost always lead to a better experience. You know your kid, but don’t push it.
- Parent involvement is sometimes required… don’t stray too far
- Not every ski day becomes a full ski day… and that’s okay
Many families pair learning to ski with other winter activities…
Like, explore the Snow Tubing Near NYC, choosing a winter resort with activities for all ages, or staying in a vacation rental with private indoor pool so the trip still feels like a win if skiing ends early.
Not ever mountain offers ski lessons for 2 year olds… but these ones do, and when expectations are realistic, they can be a great first step.
And if this year’s first ski lesson is short, messy, and followed immediately by hot chocolate? That still counts.
Happy travels…
